Early to rise, early to ride! ☀️🚴

Our bike patrol officers were out early this morning 🌄, pedaling through neighborhoods 🏘️ and checking in with folks as Rutland woke up.

We stopped by the Farmers Market 🧺🍓 while vendors were setting up (and maybe eyed the fresh donuts 🍩😉) and made sure everything was safe and ready for opening.

If you see us rolling by this morning, give us a wave! 👋😄 We’re here to keep Rutland safe, one pedal at a time. 🚴‍♂️💙

It’s going to be a beautiful Vermont day so come down to the outdoor Farmers Market and support our local businesses!

🚔 Impaired Driving Reminder 🚔

While handling many other calls for service throughout the city during their shift, our night shift officers also responded to two separate incidents involving individuals operating vehicles over the legal limit both occurring within one hour of each other.

Today is International Day of Families, a reminder that impaired driving does not only impact the person behind the wheel. A DUI can have lasting effects on families, friends, victims, and entire communities. One poor decision can change lives forever.

This is a reminder to never get behind the wheel while impaired by drugs or alcohol. Plan ahead. Use a designated driver, rideshare, taxi, or call someone for a safe ride home.

Drive sober. Arrive safely.

🚨 Bear on the Move in Northeast Rutland! 🐻🏡

A message from the Rutland City Police Department 🐻

We’ve received a report from a community member in the northeast sector who shared video footage of a large bear walking through a residential yard. While sightings like this are not uncommon in our region, we want to remind residents to stay alert and take a few simple precautions to keep both your family and local wildlife safe.

Helpful tips for residents:
• Do not approach or attempt to feed the bear
• Secure trash cans with tight-fitting lids and avoid leaving garbage outside overnight
• Remove bird feeders and outdoor pet food, which can attract wildlife
• Keep a safe distance and bring pets indoors if a bear is spotted nearby
• Make noise if you encounter a bear unexpectedly to avoid surprising it
• Report any aggressive behavior or repeated sightings to local authorities

Staying mindful helps protect both our community and the animals that share it.

If you capture footage or observe wildlife activity, feel free to share it with us, it helps us monitor patterns and keep everyone informed.

Stay safe, Rutland!
